LH Marine is a leading non-profit organisation in Ireland focused on marine research and awareness. This organisation was founded under the supervision of Freddie Barnes.
Barnes didn’t study marine biology nor anything related to the field. As a young child, his parents relied on fishing mostly to make a living. At a young age, Barnes learned everything he knows about the ocean not through books, but by swimming.
He witnessed the devastations that struck marine life, especially the Deepwater Horizon oil spill back in 2010 at the Gulf of Mexico. Barnes knew he had to do something and working as a real-time captioner, he couldn’t do much.
So he created LH Marine. It started out as a small organisation helping fishermen in Ireland cope with the many issues affecting their livelihood and resources.
Now, LH Marine is a research powerhouse not only in Ireland but in the entire world.
LH Marine Research
LH Marine tackled a lot of research topics and developments in the field of marine biology and marine biodiversity. We are now in the midst of conducting experiments and studies focused on recycling plastic and trash found in the ocean.
With the help of our partners worldwide, including some of the best learning institutions, we are able to compact all of our resources and have introduced recycling methods that offer a lot of value for marine life and diversity.
