Many people consider marine issues not that big of a deal. Mainly because it does not affect us directly. But, if we keep this up, it will affect us directly and not in a good way. Marine conservation is important because…

71% of the world is water

71% of the world is water. That’s right. The world is made up of water mostly. If we don’t do something, then that water will continue to deteriorate, and we will face the dire consequences. Ocean warming is making a lot of noise and alarming researchers all over the globe.

With too much heat from greenhouse gas emissions, ocean temperatures are on the rise. Rising ocean temperatures will take its toll on marine species and ecosystems.

We ourselves are perpetrators

It is also important to protect the oceans because we are destroying it ourselves. We may not remember or know it, but we did something that is really bad for the ocean and we can’t take that back.

Throwing our trash in the ocean or in different bodies of water. Dumping tissues or plastic down the toilet. And so much more things we do. This is more than just righting our wrongs. This is about preserving a planet for the next generations who are going to occupy it when we are gone.

We owe it to them to save the oceans now or they might, and they will suffer the consequences of our actions.

A Great Education Path

Not many students consider marine-related courses or programs. The problem is that they don’t see much value from these field of studies and they assume opportunities are not in that industry.

But this is more than just an industry. We are talking about making the world a better place. With that said, more students are now finding great value in terms of achievements and careers in marine-related studies and professions.

This is why it is important we get involved.

These days, it is important that we educate people, especially the younger generation about marine conservation. We face serious issues that may result in catastrophic results if we don’t act now.

There are so many topics to talk about marine conservation like the crisis with coral destruction, oil pollution, noise pollution, and so much more. But there are also newfound solutions on how to preserve and save the oceans all over the world.

Here are some ways to educate the public about the value of marine research, awareness, and conservation.

Focus Groups

These sessions are focused mainly on ideas about a new product. But we can change it up a bit and initiate a topic on how to battle the many threats against marine life. During focus groups, people can brainstorm ideas and really get involved in the discussion that may result in viable information and insights.

During focus groups, participants are focused, and they want to contribute. If you can encourage them to contribute during that, then you are one step closer to inspiring them to take a step forward for the sake of marine conservation.

Documentaries

A quick way to educate people is to show them a documentary tackling the many issues surrounding marine life all over the world. With over hundreds of documentaries to choose from, you are sure to generate interest.

Most documentaries focus on the big issues, so they show what’s happening no matter how heavy or bad the information and images are. But, with all the content they see, they comprehend that these issues are really destroying not only the oceans but the planet itself.

With fear comes awareness and with awareness comes action. But fear should not drive us. It is only a factor that drives us. What should motivate us to take action is our passion to really make a difference, a long-lasting difference for the next generation.

Recreational Activities

When we say recreational activities, we mean activities that make people think and act. For example, diving. Through diving, people see the ocean to what it really is, an ecosystem of magnificence.

We can even stage online casino activities with ocean-themed slot machines. Believe it or not, there are actually slot titles that talk about marine conservation. Check out Platinum play to know more about what we are talking about.

Reasons Why You Should Join Marine Research Trips

Posted on 21st February 2020 by Freddie Barnes

Every day, dozens of marine research trips or marine explorations are staged. However, most people on board have a particular role during the marine mission and that is either to conduct research or do surveillance.

But there are marine study or research trips meant for people interested to learn more about marine life. Not just marine life in general but every piece of information people can find value in to help battle the biggest threats we all face today.

So, have you considered going on a marine research trip? If not, then here’s something that just might change your mind.

Improve awareness

Most people in the world are not involved in marine preservation campaigns or are even aware of the big problem. The big problem is a bunch of big problems destroying marine ecosystems.

We get to read this news online, but we don’t really get a full grasp of the issue’s magnitude.

During these trips, we see things, unpleasant things telling us that the problem is bigger than it seems to be on television or on the internet. For example, did you know that the number of garbage dumped in the ocean surpassed billions?

There are now more than 5 trillion pieces of garbage in oceans all over the world. As we see tangible evidence, we are more than informed and more than encouraged to take action. After the trip, you don’t just get information, but you get to share it to people and then you yourself get to spread awareness.

A Great Learning Opportunity

No matter what your purpose is for joining the trip, you will surely get off with new information about marine preservation and ecosystems. Modern technology allows researchers to use every resource they can to conduct research and studies while onboard an ocean vessel.

The Internet really pulled through for us by keeping us connected no matter where we are. This allows us to collaborate efficiently with one another. We can share information using cloud computing.

For some leisure time, you can even use the internet and your smartphone to do some online activities like social media or video streaming. You can even play casino games on the boat.

Just try visiting Vegas royal and you’ll find out what we are talking about. Take time for some fun because a marine mission, is not going to be easy, at all.

Better Appreciation for Marine Life

With the daily struggles, marine life faces, you see the problem head-on and you realize, that the problem is massive. Positioning yourself and re-establishing how you see ocean life will change.

You will gain a new calling to save what is there to save. It’s not just about saving the ocean but saving our future.

The Biggest Threats World Oceans are Facing

Posted on 7th January 2020 by Freddie Barnes

Did you know that plastic bags are banned in some parts of the world? This is stemmed from too much plastic waste going to the ocean and killing millions of lifeforms. More than 8 million tons of plastic is dumped in the ocean yearly. That number grew in the recent years and unfortunately, expected to grow in the next.

Plastic is not the only issue oceans face today or any bodies of water for that matter. So many living and non-living things in the ocean are dying and being destroyed. 70% of the world is made up of water. If nothing is done to resolve these massive environmental issues.

No matter how scary or alarming, it is important that you stay informed about these crises. So, here they are.

Garbage

According to National Geographic, there are 2.52 trillion pieces of trash in the ocean right now. Humans keep on dumping tons of garbage in the ocean on a daily basis. A piece of trash can already kill one life form either through digestion or strangling.

There have been a lot of cases wherein dead animals wash up to shore and people see a bunch of garbage in their digestive system. Some of them mistake the rubbish as food while others get caught and are unable to move freely.

Ocean corals and sponges are also suffering the consequences. Jellyfish and squids choke up and they die.

Shark Finning

Every year, 50 to million sharks are killed or left to die. Every day, thousands of sharks lose their dorsal fins. These fins are then sold to restaurants and other food providers as it is an essential ingredient for an expensive soup in Asia.

After being fished out of the ocean and finned, sharks are then thrown back. Most of them don’t live long because of bleeding to death. Despite strict laws and the international justice system acknowledging the issue, this problem remains persistent.

It is also unfortunate that sharks don’t reproduce as fast as other marine lifeforms. That is why there is no established balance between life and death among sharks. This has a significant impact on the ecosystem, and it is something we should resolve right now.

Ocean Warming

Ocean warming is a thing and it is a bad thing. Oceans all over continue to rise and they warm up faster than we thought. According to researchers heat stored in oceans builds up and in the near future, will harm mankind.

We need to create awareness of all these threats our oceans are facing. How are you going to get involved?
